Improve Your Poker Hands by Studying One Poker Concept at a Time

Poker is a card game played between 2 or more players with the aim of winning the pot, which is the total amount of bets made by all players in any one deal. Each player starts with 2 hole cards and then a round of betting begins, initiated by mandatory bets called blinds placed into the pot by the two players to the left of the dealer.

The flop is dealt and this opens up the possibility of a number of hands, including straights, full houses and three of a kind. If you have a strong hand then you should bet aggressively to force weaker hands out of the pot and increase your chances of winning the pot.

If you have a weaker hand then you should check and act last in the betting. This will give you better information about your opponents and you will be able to make cheap, effective bluffs. Also acting last gives you more “bluff equity,” meaning that it is cheaper for your opponents to call your bluffs than it is for them to raise your bluffs.

Many players tend to bounce around in their studies and don’t study a single concept fully before moving on to the next. Watch a Cbet video on Monday, read a 3bet article on Tuesday and learn about ICM on Wednesday. This is not the best way to improve your game. Focus on studying ONE concept each week until you master it.
