Types of Slots in RiverWare

A slot is a thin opening or groove, such as a slit or a trough. Mail goes through the mail slot in a door or mailbox, and people use slots to put coins into machines that pay out money. There are several types of slots in RiverWare, including expression and periodic slots. These slots are shown differently in the Slot Viewer and have different menu options when highlighted in the viewer. They can also be detached from the Slot Viewer and displayed in a separate dialog.

The Periodic Slot configuration is available under the View, then Configure Period menu. This option allows you to set the period, interval, and data interpolation settings for the slot. Note: A RPL reference to a value at a timestep that is outside the range of the slot will return NaN, even when the periodic configuration is enabled.

The Periodic Slot is a specialized table slot used to hold a timeseries that repeats over a defined period, such as the monthly evaporation coefficients for a reservoir. A periodic slot can have a text or numeric column heading, and it can be accessed from RPL using standard series syntax. A periodic slot can be configured for either linear or bilinear interpolation. When a periodic slot is displayed in the Slot Viewer, it has special ornamentation in its column heading to indicate its type and to display a link to its separate Slot Dialog. Drag a column from the Slot Viewer to show this slot in a separate Slot Dialog.
